Professional Licensure and Certification (Place)

COVID-19 PLACE Updates

Please see below DMH PLACE credentialing announcements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Date of Issuance Policy – DMH PLACE Rule 14.3B – Updated July 7, 2020:

For individuals hired by our providers from March 1 through December 31 (or transferred into a new position as outlined in Rule 14.3B) the Date of Issuance policy outlined in DMH PLACE Rule 14.3B will be extended from 30 days from the date of hire (or date of transfer as applicable) to 90 days from the date of hire/transfer.

2020 Renewal Season:

The 2020 Renewal Season for DMH Certified Mental Health Therapists/Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapists (CMHTs/LCMHTs) and DMH Certified Addictions Therapists/Licensed Clinical Addictions Therapists (CATs/LCATs) is cancelled.

DMH Certified Mental Health Therapists/Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapists (CMHTs/LCMHTs) and DMH Certified Addictions Therapists/Licensed Clinical Addictions Therapists (CATs/LCATs) whose credentials are in “Current” or “Inactive” status and who need to renew their credential by June 30th will have their credential expiration date automatically changed to June 30, 2022.

In conjunction with 2020 Renewal Season cancellation, DMH has eliminated the face-to-face continuing education (CE) renewal requirement for DMH Mental Health Therapists and DMH Addictions Therapists (as outlined in the DMH PLACE Rules document) for the certification/licensure period of July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020. DMH Mental Health Therapists and DMH Addictions Therapists who are trying to gain CEs for renewal compliance (even though the 2020 Renewal Season has been canceled) are not required to gain face-to-face CEs for the certification/licensure period of July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020. We encourage this cohort to continue to gain the required CEs for the July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020, certification/licensure period (as outlined in the DMH PLACE Rules document) through online and distance learning activities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DMH will not conduct a continuing education (CE) renewal audit for DMH Mental Health Therapists and DMH Addictions Therapists for the certification/licensure period of July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2020.

We will be reaching out to our state mental health system providers with additional information regarding this change.

Verification of Certification Requests:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we kindly encourage our DMH providers to refrain from requesting wide-scale verification of certifications.
