Changing the Narrative by Sharing Our Stories: 9th Annual Suicide Prevention Symposium
The Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) invites you to join us for the 9th Annual Suicide Prevention Symposium on Tuesday, September 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson.
This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative by Sharing Our Stories,” emphasizes the power of conversation and connection in breaking down the stigma surrounding suicide. Sharing stories is not easy, but it can bring healing, offer hope and remind people they are not alone.
The symposium will feature speakers who have been personally impacted by suicide, providing their unique perspectives on how open dialogue can change lives and communities. Their stories remind us that every voice matters and that talking about suicide can make a difference for someone who may be struggling in silence.
As part of Suicide Prevention Month, this event reflects DMH’s ongoing mission to provide hope, encourage resiliency and ensure Mississippians have access to life-saving resources. It is also a reminder of the importance of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which connects people to immediate, confidential support anytime, day or night.
The symposium is free to attend, but registration is required. This event will be in-person and limited to 150 people, so sign up and secure your seat now! We encourage community members, professionals, advocates and anyone touched by suicide to take part in this important conversation.
***It’s important to note that this year’s event will not feature Continuing Education.
